How Can You Be A Mermaid?
So you'd rather be a mermaid and take your freediving to the next level? It seems that becoming a mermaid is something of a rising trend as of recently. There are more underwater and water based films and cartoons being released. You can even learn to be a mermaid with schools offering mermaid lessons and qualifications. There is also a lot of mermaid related clothing and swim equipment so you can be a mermaid in your own home as well as in the water.
The Best Mermaid & Freediving Films
One of the best ways you can keep on top of your mermaid fetish and desires is to watch all the best mermaid and freediving films out there, here are a few we can recommend.
The Little Mermaid
The #1 mermaid film, it's been out for nearly 3 decates and we're 100% positive you've already seen it, but just incase you haven't, here is the plot.
"In Disney's beguiling animated romp, rebellious 16-year-old mermaid Ariel (Jodi Benson) is fascinated with life on land. On one of her visits to the surface, which are forbidden by her controlling father, King Triton, she falls for a human prince. Determined to be with her new love, Ariel makes a dangerous deal with the sea witch Ursula (Pat Carroll) to become human for three days. But when plans go awry for the star-crossed lovers, the king must make the ultimate sacrifice for his daughter."
A film we haven't actually heard of before here at Freedive Earth, it came out 10 years ago and has a rather normal and uninspiring plot line, but if you can spare an hour or two, maybe this could be on your next watch list.
"Two teenage girls (Joanna "JoJo" Levesque, Emma Roberts) discover that mermaids really do exist after a violent storm washes one ashore. The mermaid, a sassy creature named Aquamarine (Sara Paxton), is determined to prove to her father that real love exists, and enlists the girls' help in winning the heart of a handsome lifeguard (Jake McDorman)."
The Mermaid (2016)
A recent mermaid related film, came out this year and another of which we have not heard of. Taking a look at it's wikipedia listing it seems like it was quite the hit over in China and the rest of Asia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Mermaid_(2016_film) You really need to watch the trailer below to see that this film deserves your time.
"The film tells the story of a playboy businessman who falls in love with a mermaid who was sent to assassinate him."
Oh! My Zombie Mermaid
Ok, we never thought we'd hear those two words together, 'zombie' and 'mermaid', well you have and it's real. A zombie mermaid film, another from asia, this time Japan. Looks like we'll have to spare some time to chuck this one on the tv, i'm sure it has a few laughs in it.
Song of the Sea
One of the most beautifully animated and sounding films I have ever watched, Sounds of the Sea. I watched this when reading about new films Brendon Gleeson had been in and saw he was a voice for the father of the young girl. It's not entirely a mermaid film, it's based on selkies, who are human on land and turn in to seals when in the water.
Learn To Be A Mermaid
You can even take a course now in mermaiding, pretty much anywhere in the world. There are courses in mermaiding and freediving all over the world. We reccomend searching through our directory of freediving schools to find a freediving course for you. This will only help you enhance your mermaiding skills in a safe environment.
If you wish to take it a step further and practice as a mermaid and learn more about it as a discipline, in the UK you can do a course with FreediveUK http://freediveuk.com/mermaid-courses-uk
Be A Mermaid In Your Home
There's nothing better than looking like a mermaid and if you aren't wearing your mermaid tail in the ocean, the next best thing is to wear it in the home. With your best mermaid blanket, so when your snuggled up on the sofa, you can still look just like a mermaid and be warm doing it too. You can even take something like this camping or to bed for a nap.
Music and Sounds
Yurning for some music or sounds whilst working out or relaxing at home? Need to think about the big blue whilst you are away from the water? Here we have a couple of ideas which I hope you like.
Mentioned above, a film called Song of the Sea. It's the soundtrack to the amazing film that you should really watch!
Our next recommendation are ambient sounds from something like the calm sound website http://www.calmsound.com/ocean-sounds It's a music board which loops sounds of the ocean for you to have on in the background.
