2016 USOA SPEARFISHING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

SINCE 1950, THE UNDERWATER SOCIETY OF AMERICA (USOA) HAS HOSTED A FREEDIVING SPEARFISHING COMPETITION. THIS YEAR’S COMPETITION WILL BE HELD AT BEAVER LAKE, ARKANSAS. THE 2016 SPEARFISHING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP WILL BE HELD ON JUNE 23RD, FOLLOWED BY THE INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP ON JUNE 24TH. A PRELIMINARY BIG STRIPER COMPETITION WILL BE HELD ON JUNE 21ST. CASH AND PRIZES ARE OFFERED AT ALL TOURNAMENTS.

TEAMS WILL BE MADE UP OF 2 DIVERS. DIVERS MAY SKIN DIVE OR USE SCUBA TANKS ENTRY FEES WILL BE $100 PER TEAM.

THE ENTIRE LAKE IS OPEN FOR THIS EVENT. HOWEVER THERE IS NO SPEARING IN USOA TOURNAMENT WATERS FROM MIDNIGHT ON JUNE 8TH UNTIL 4PM ON JUNE 23RD. THIS WILL BE A 6 HOUR DIVE FROM 8AM TILL 2PM. THIS EVENT WILL BE ON THE HONOR SYSTEM FOR TIMES. TIME WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT COMPETITOR'S MEETING ON TUESDAY, JUNE 21ST. WEIGH-IN WILL BE HELD AT PRAIRIE CREEKS GRAND PAVILION AT 2:30PM. ALL DIVERS NOT AT WEIGH-IN BY 2:30 WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO WEIGH. DIVERS MAY ENTER THE WATER AT 8AM AND MUST BE OUT AT 2PM. ALL RULES AND TIMES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

ALL SPEARFISHING MUST BE CARRIED OUT IN ACCORDANCE WITH ARKANSAS FISH AND GAME RULES AND REGULATIONS. SPEAR FISHERMEN MUST DISPLAY A STANDARD DIVER’S FLAG AND SPEARFISH NO MORE THAN 100 YARDS FROM IT. THE FLAG MUST BE AT LEAST 12 INCHES SQUARE AND AT LEAST 12 INCHES ABOVE THE WATER. ALL GAME FISH MUST ALSO BE CARED FOR IN A MANNER TO PREVENT SPOILAGE (I.E., PLACING FISH ON ICE). ALL DIVERS MUST POSSESS A VALID ARKANSAS GAME AND FISH LICENSE. SEE LINK BELOW FOR DETAILS.

THE COMPETITION WILL BE DIVIDED UP INTO 4 CLASSES: YOUTH, WOMEN, MIXED TEAM, AND EVERYONE ELSE. IF THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH DIVERS TO FILL OUT CLASSES, SOME CLASSES MAY BE COMBINED. ALL DIVERS WILL COMPETE HEAD TO HEAD REGARDLESS OF SKIN DIVING OR SCUBA. FISH SPECIES AND LIMITS ARE LISTED HERE.
